Apprenticeship at cycos

Apprentices at cycos

Whether you want to dive straight into practical work (apprenticeship) or delve deeper into theory and mathematics (dual study program MATSE) – with us, you have the choice.

Two paths, one goal: Software development

Do you wonder why websites load quickly or slowly? Why servers crash when a hyped game is released? Or how streaming providers deliver new content to millions of people at the same time? These are exactly the exciting questions we deal with – and maybe soon you too.

For software to work, it needs people who contribute their knowledge and ideas. That’s why we value:

Key Competencies

  • Communication You can express your opinion clearly and are open to feedback.
  • Team spirit You enjoy working with others rather than alone.
  • Internationality Working with teams worldwide and communicating in English doesn’t scare you.
  • Curiosity You are eager to learn new things and deepen your knowledge independently.

What you should bring

Experience with programming is not a must – but an affinity for technology and genuine interest in software development are. If you already have experience, all the better!

Projects by our apprentices

Paprikantin Automated irrigation system for office pepper plants

No, it's not a typo! Our apprentices have developed an automatic irrigation system for our pepper plants. Various technologies are used, such as microcontrollers, sensors, and actuators. The system ensures that the plants always receive the optimal amount of water and helps us save resources. Of course, the great harvest is a fantastic side effect!

Arcade Custom-built retro arcade machine with illuminated display

Did you know that the first video games became popular in arcades during the 1970s? Our apprentices built their own small arcade machine, complete with illuminated sign and microcontroller. It features various retro games that they programmed themselves. A real eye-catcher in the office and a great way to unwind during lunch breaks!

cyEinkauf One of our trainees pushing a shopping cart filled with toilet paper

The final project of one of our apprentices serves our facility management by standardizing and simplifying recurring ordering processes. Built like an online shop, products can be created and ordered via automatically generated email.

cyTrainee A trainee filling out an old paper training record

Relevant for every apprentice in any company: training records or weekly reports. Not too long ago, the IHK offered its own system for digital management of these records. Since this no longer exists, our apprentices built their own system, which is now used by all our current and future trainees.

Reflections from our graduated apprentices

Junior Software Developer

It’s a good feeling to know you’re not left alone when you get stuck. The developers take time to help with problems and explain things. What’s especially motivating is that, even during training, you work on real internal and customer projects, gaining valuable practical experience early on.

My apprenticeship at cycos helped me discover my strengths and needs in the working world. Application development was just a vague concept at first, but it turned out to be exactly the right fit for me. Thanks to flexible working hours, adjusted weekly hours after my apprenticeship, and plenty of vacation days, I can perfectly balance work with my hobbies—and the free parking in Aachen is a great bonus..

I really appreciate that you are taken seriously here right from the start. If you ever get stuck, you get help immediately—without stress or pressure. And the best part is: you can usually choose your own projects, whether they relate to your personal interests or simply because you find them interesting.
